How to do research

Pay attention to these tips when you research for this project:

  1. Write down or draw everything you know about your topic. It is best to do this on paper.
  2. Make a list of keywords.
  3. Start with the easiest books, databases or websites and work your way up to the harder texts.
  4. Always consider PAARC when you find information. Is it purposeful, authoritative, accurate, relevant, current?
  5. Take lots of notes - on paper is best because you won't be cutting and pasting.
  6. Keep track of your sources.
  7. If you have too many sources, rethink your keywords. You may need to narrow your topic or filter out results.
  8. If you have too few sources, rethink your keywords. You may need to broaden your topic or use fewer filters.
