Fiction, non-fiction materials for reading unit on social issues

From our library collection

These are a few titles from our collection. You have two ways of finding more books that deal with this issue:

1. Go to grade 4's Visual Tab page on the library catalog and click on the button "Literature Integration." Look for the button called "disability" and click for a list of realistic fiction books where characters have a physical or learning disability. 

2. Enter the term "disability" or "people with disabilities" on the main search page of the library catalog and choose "subject" from the buttons under the search field. If you only want fiction books, add the word "fiction" to your search term. 

Non-fiction books from our collection

We have non-fiction books about disabilities and disabled people. Look on the shelves in these Dewey Decimal sections. 

300-360s - disabilities and disabled people

418 - sign language

921s - biographies. Some famous disabled people are Helen Keller, Louis Braille, and Stephen Hawking
